The office of Regional Archives Sambalpur a branch of Odisha State Archives, Bhubaneswar has been functioning at present in the Red-cross building at Bhutapara Chhak under the Department of Culture since April, 1993. The old and rare books like District Gazetteers, Bihar & Odisha Council Proceedings, Assembly Debates, Mahatma Gandhi, Subash Chandra Bose, Gopabandhu Das, Madhusudan Das, Report on management and Temple expenses of Jagannath Temple during the 19th Century, Temples of Orissa & India, Festivals of Odisha, Freedom Movement in Odisha at a glance, History of Odisha, Archaeological remains of Bhubaneswar, Sambalpur Itihas and Memoirs of Bengal Civilian by Beams are available in Regional Archives. Apart from it, the journals like Odisha Historical Research journals, Odisha Review & Utkal Prasanga are the Key source for research.
Besides the old and valuable records on freedom fighter, Surendra Sai, the rebel Zamindars of Ghes, Freedom Movement in Western Odisha, Language agitation in Sambalpur for creation of Odisha Province, A.N. Khosla's Report on Hirakud Dam Project, Kosalananda Kavya, Patna Deepika and Patna State Gazettee etc. have been acquired and preserved scientifically for research purpose in Regional Archives, Sambalpur.

The Regional Archives is a branch office meant for housing the non-current records of enduring value for administrative as well as for historical research. Presently, Regional Archives plays a significant role for promotion of research in History and allied fields of social science.
